Whether it's cheese, milk, ice cream or yogurt, dairy products are a staple in the diets of Americans and people all over the world. During National Dairy Month each June, we recognize our nation's dairy producers and processors for making sure that we can enjoy quality dairy products.

According to the International Dairy Foods Association, National Dairy Month started out as National Milk Month in 1937 as a way to promote drinking milk. It was initially created to stabilize the dairy demand when production was at a surplus, but has now developed into an annual tradition that celebrates the contributions the dairy industry has made to the world.  Now, many states have special events and observances in honor of dairy farmers and the industry.
The dairy industry is an important economic engine in America.  The farm value of milk production is second only to beef among livestock industries and is equal to corn. Milk is produced in all 50 states, and dairy farms are overwhelmingly family-managed.

Always true stewards of the land, dairy farmers have made tremendous strides when it comes to sustainability. In the past 63 years, the industry reduced its carbon footprint by 63 percent. This amazing statistic is a testament to the integrity of the nation's dairies, most of which are family-owned and well-connected to the communities around them.

So the next time you eat a cheese sandwich, drink a glass of cold milk, enjoy an ice cream cone or grab a cup of yogurt, think of the dairy farmers who make it all possible.  And no matter where your dairy comes from, remember that while dairy farming is a labor of love, there's no doubt it is hard labor - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

National Ag Day FAQ's

What Is Ag Day?
It's a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others across America join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture.

When Is Ag Day?
Ag Day is celebrated on March 18, 2015. National Ag Day falls during National Ag Week, March 15-21, 2015.

Who Hosts Ag Day?
The Agriculture Council of America hosts the campaign on a national level. However, the awareness efforts in communities across America are as influential - if not more - than the broad-scale effort. Again this year, the Ag Day Planning Guide has been created to help communities and organizations more effectively host Ag Day events.

What Is Ag Day All About?
Ag Day is about recognizing - and celebrating - the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:
  • Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
  • Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
  • Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

Why Celebrate Agriculture?
Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis. But too few people truly understand this contribution. This is particularly the case in our schools, where students may only be exposed to agriculture if they enroll in related vocational training.
By building awareness, the Agriculture Council of America is encouraging young people to consider career opportunities in agriculture.
Each American farmer feeds more than 144 people ... a dramatic increase from 25 people in the 1960s. Quite simply, American agriculture is doing more - and doing it better. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States.

What Can I Do to Help?
Put simply, get involved! Your participation in Ag Day is critical in helping us spread this positive message about agriculture. If you are interested in planning an event, download your Planning Guide today. Of course, there are other ways you can lend your support, including sending a letter to your local newspaper, calling your Congressional representatives or simply sharing information about agriculture with youngsters in your community.

LAKE WALES CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM BECOMES AREA'S ONLY CERTIFIED RAM AGRICULTURAL DEALERSHIP
LAKE WALES, FL, July 28, 2014 - When Ram trucks celebrated America's farm and ranch families with a two minute commercial featuring Paul Harvey during the 2013 Super Bowl, they created a relationship with those families like no other truck maker ever had.
Today, Ram dealers are proud to announce the next generation of that relationship. Endorsed by the National Agriculture in the Classroom Organization, Ram welcomes Lake Wales Ram to the ranks of Ram Certified Agriculture Dealership. A first of its kind in the truck industry, this certification lets farm and ranch families know staff at this dealership understands the uniqueness of their business. It also signals the dealerships commitment to the timing of citrus harvest, calving season and third cutting of hay by adjusting parts of its operations to accommodate the unique demands of each commodity, and every season.
To become a Certified Agriculture Dealership, Lake Wales Ram was required to select three team members to successfully complete a curriculum prepared by its agriculture partners. The program recommended one each from Parts, Sales and Service. Your Certified Agriculture Specialists at Lake Wales Ram are: Marc Niethammer, Lenny Harter and Robin Ives.
With the initial curriculum complete, the Lake Wales Ram team will now participate in a continuing education effort that synchronizes their learning with everything important to Florida agriculture as it happens. Ongoing education, combined with what Certified Agriculture Specialists learned through the initial curriculum, will allow the dealership to become a real-time partner with area agriculture by pro¬actively anticipating and meeting the changing demands of its family farm customers.
The Certified Agriculture Dealership designation is also important to the areas non-farm truck buyers. Agriculture is widely known for battle testing equipment under the toughest of conditions. Experts at Lake Wales Ram, and the farms they support, will be able to provide buyers of any influence first-hand knowledge of the products capabilities based on their own experiences on the farm.
Lake Wales Ram Ag Specialist Marc Niethammer sums it up best; "Appreciation for agriculture's needs has set deep roots with this dealership, and the Ram brand. The RamCAD program was built with input from educational experts, agriculture experts, family farmers & ranchers so our dealership can offer the industry something more-a partnership that understands, and adjusts to those needs at every level."
For more information about what this certification means, and how Lake Wales Ram intends to use it, contact any of our Certified Agriculture Specialists at 863-676-0733.
